Outed, Craig To Oust Himself?

A breathless producer from a cable network called me this morning: "We're hearing rumblings that Larry Craig is going to resign today ." She wanted to know if I'd be available for punditing, should that come to pass.

Should he resign? Probably. He broke the law, but then he was only charged with a misdemeanor. As noted below, what I find intriguing is that GOPers immediately jumped on Craig--calling for either an investigation or a resignation--and they did no such thing for Senator David Vitter, who made repeated phone calls to the escort service run by the DC Madam. Since Vitter refused to say what those calls led to, an inquiry was warranted in that case--perhaps more so than in the Craig case, in which a police report pretty clearly lays out what happened. So is there a double standard: an attempt at gay stall sex, bad; using call girls, not so bad? There may be another factor. Should Craig resign, the Republican governor of Idaho would surely appoint a Republican to replace him. Should Vitter resign, a Democrat might be his successor. Politics when it comes to issues of morality and crime? I know, you're shocked.

I'm out and about today. No more postings. Enjoy the holiday weekend, these last few days of summer and these last few days before Fred Thompson is officially a candidate. And if you haven't yet, please see the report below on the secret US embassy report on corruption within the Iraqi government.

Mr. Corn,

Excellent point on Vitter. The hypocrisy levels have skyrocketed.

I'm glad you had a fruitful, fun summer. You deserve it.

I've got a video summary of a Rolling Stone article I heard about this morning on my local Air America station. By the way, San Diego, Air America's fourth largest market, is being threatened with format change. It's a ruse. The station is not in financial trouble. Advertising dollars are flowing in.

It's political in a nutshell. Clear Channel is deliberately cutting off liberal voices.

Here's the video link.

I just listened and watched Thom Hartmann deliver one masterful presentation on CSPAN/Air America, a simulcast. I'm not feeling particularly eloquent, but color me totally impressed!

Hartmann had everything so wonderfully well-thought out and planned, a true scholar practiced in the art of persuasion. It was a virtuoso performance. Brought warmth to my heart.

Ex-Reagan Aide Calls Bush a "Mass Murderer"

[...]

One person sees the black humor--but he's not laughing. Paul Craig Roberts, the former Reagan aide who has earned a reputation for being a saber-toothed critic of the Bush administration recently posted an article on Antiwar.com, where he sounds the alarm on Bush's attack plans against Iran, arguing that a military strike would result in so many additional deaths it would place Bush even higher on the list of "mass murderers of all time"--a distinction, Roberts says, the president already holds.

"Bush is too self-righteous to see the dark humor in his denunciations of Iran for threatening 'the security of nations everywhere' and of the Iraqi resistance for 'a vision that rejects tolerance, crushes all dissent, and justifies the murder of innocent men, women, and children in the pursuit of political power," he writes. "Those are precisely the words that most of the world applies to Bush and his Brownshirt administration."

Roberts's ire doesn't stop with Bush and Co. He lambastes the media for its endless coverage of Larry Craig's bathroom habits, and criticizes the public's focus on "why a South Carolina beauty queen cannot answer a simple question about why her generation is unable to find the United States on a map." (Admission: On this point I think Roberts may need to chill out a little. I mean, have you seen that YouTube video? Holy shit, that's priceless. Priceless! Comedy gold, people. But I digress.)

US Marine: I Was Ordered to Execute Women and Children

Lance Corporal Humberto Mendoza testified this week that Marine Sargeant Frank Wuterich, who faces 17 counts of murder over the Haditha killings, ordered him to execute Iraqi women and children.

The marines had been responding to a roadside bomb on November 19, 2005 when a roadside bomb killed one in their midst. Mendoza says Wuterich ordered him and his fellow marines o begin clearing housses in search of insurgents, what followed was one of the most horrific episodes reported out of Iraq:

One World Government, One World Religion

Dear Posters:

Alex Jones on his infowars website has said as far back as four years that the United States of Evil has wanted a One World Government. The Bush family has been keenly interested in such a government. The belief is that a One World Government will ease tensions and unite the governments to pursue common interests. The idea is a good one but to try and control the human population with a One World Government will invariably create backlashes because people do not want to be under the control of any person and/or government.

The Bush family at their meetings with other governments at the Bohemian Grove in northern California has been greatly involved in a One World Government idea. There has also been talk of a One World Religion. The problem with a One World Religion has been that at the Bohemian Grove meetings there has been talk of satanic worship. That idea would not fit too well with the human population. Hitler Bush does not to leave the White House because he desires to be the Father of a One World Government.

Recently, I have read an article that there is a growing belief that a One World Religion will also help unite the human population. Personally, I believe that a One World Religion will probably be a possibility. As I have stated, Catholicism will be extinct by 2101. There will be pockets of Catholics but the religion will not be viable. The reason for the extinction of Catholicism is because the Catholic clerics have lost their moral compass.

I believe that Judaism and Christianity will also be extinct for a variety of reasons. As for Christians they have turned their backs on Jesus Christ and they have accepted bushianity as their religion. Judaism will also have its problems and the religion will have pockets of Jews. The same holds true for Christians. The reason why Judaism will be more difficult to become extinct centers with the fact that Judaism throughout history has reinvented itself. For example, many Jews during World War II survived because they claimed to be Christians.

Islam has the current numbers and the religion will gain more converts because to become a Muslim is an easier process than the other religions. The Muslim convert must believe in the four or eight pillars of Islam; the convert must pray five times during the day; and the convert must read the Koran.

Yes, Islam will be planet, Earth’s One World Religion. Hitler Bush’s actions against Iraq and Iran will unite the Muslims to become the beginning of a One World Religion. Would we consider this unity an unintended consequence of Hitler Bush’s stupidity?

Sincerely,
Gerald

US nuking Americans

Gerald said...

The U.S. nuclear weapons program has sickened 36,500 Americans and killed more than 4,000, the Rocky Mountain News has determined from government figures.
Those numbers reflect only people who have been approved for government compensation. They include people who mined uranium, built bombs and breathed dust from bomb tests.

Gerald said...

Nazis reading the Rocky Mountain News will really feel glorified at the American people who suffer from the US nuking them.

Here is a Nazi rally lyric. "There is a war out there and death is everywhere but I feel so alive."

Cliff Hemphill, 67

• Home: Adams County

• Exposure: On the deck of an aircraft carrier in the South Pacific during nine nuclear tests

• Compensation: Given a monthly 50 percent disability payment and veterans medical care for 140 skin cancers and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Cliff Hemphill, of Adams County, still carries the bulldog frame, fierce pride and "Semper Fidelis" tattoo on his arm from his days as a Marine.

But his memories are seared with images of himself curled up on the deck of a small carrier, his head buried in his arms, as heat and noise slammed into him. When he looked up, he saw the sky lit with brilliant streaks of pink and blue.

Nine times he witnessed nuclear tests from the deck of the USS Princeton in the South Pacific in the 1960s.

That caused so many health problems that his wife of 43 years was finally driven away, he believes.

It was the 140 skin cancers that caused the U.S. government to finally give him a disability payment, after it revised his estimated radiation dosage to 550 rem - 110 times the current annual federal maximum for nuclear workers.

He blames the nuclear tests for a long list of other health problems as well, from scarred lungs to unusual back-of-the- eye cataracts. He figures either the skin cancer or diabetes will do him in.

"I'm just waiting for the hammer to fall," he says.

He's certain officials knew they were risking the health and lives of servicemen who witnessed the tests. It was 17 years after the U.S. dropped a nuclear bomb on Hiroshima, after all.

"We were used as guinea pigs," he says. "Most of my shipmates have the same problems."

He says the film in the Marines' dosimeters for measuring their radiation exposure turned black after the blasts. The government said natural heat and humidity spoiled the readings.

"I don't believe they were false readings at all," says Hemphill.

Hemphill won additional disability payments for post-traumatic stress disorder after pointing to a study by Dr. Henry Vyner that diagnosed PTSD in servicemen who witnessed nuclear tests. The study said they harbored "anger at the government because it knowingly placed them in a dangerous situation and now is refusing to accept responsibility."

Pentagon ‘three-day blitz’ plan for Iran

By Sarah Baxter

09/02/07 "The Times" -- - Washington -- THE Pentagon has drawn up plans for massive airstrikes against 1,200 targets in Iran, designed to annihilate the Iranians’ military capability in three days, according to a national security expert.

Alexis Debat, director of terrorism and national security at the Nixon Center, said last week that US military planners were not preparing for “pinprick strikes” against Iran’s nuclear facilities. “They’re about taking out the entire Iranian military,” he said.

Debat was speaking at a meeting organised by The National Interest, a conservative foreign policy journal. He told The Sunday Times that the US military had concluded: “Whether you go for pinprick strikes or all-out military action, the reaction from the Iranians will be the same.” It was, he added, a “very legitimate strategic calculus”.

President George Bush intensified the rhetoric against Iran last week, accusing Tehran of putting the Middle East “under the shadow of a nuclear holocaust”. He warned that the US and its allies would confront Iran “before it is too late”.

One Washington source said the “temperature was rising” inside the administration. Bush was “sending a message to a number of audiences”, he said ? to the Iranians and to members of the United Nations security council who are trying to weaken a tough third resolution on sanctions against Iran for flouting a UN ban on uranium enrichment.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) last week reported “significant” cooperation with Iran over its nuclear programme and said that uranium enrichment had slowed. Tehran has promised to answer most questions from the agency by November, but Washington fears it is stalling to prevent further sanctions. Iran continues to maintain it is merely developing civilian nuclear power.

Bush is committed for now to the diplomatic route but thinks Iran is moving towards acquiring a nuclear weapon. According to one well placed source, Washington believes it would be prudent to use rapid, overwhelming force, should military action become necessary.

Israel, which has warned it will not allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons, has made its own preparations for airstrikes and is said to be ready to attack if the Americans back down.

Alireza Jafarzadeh, a spokesman for the National Council of Resistance of Iran, which uncovered the existence of Iran’s uranium enrichment plant at Natanz, said the IAEA was being strung along. “A number of nuclear sites have not even been visited by the IAEA,” he said. “They’re giving a clean bill of health to a regime that is known to have practised deception.”

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Iranian president, irritated the Bush administration last week by vowing to fill a “power vacuum” in Iraq. But Washington believes Iran is already fighting a proxy war with the Americans in Iraq.

The Institute for the Study of War last week released a report by Kimberly Kagan that explicitly uses the term “proxy war” and claims that with the Sunni insurgency and Al-Qaeda in Iraq “increasingly under control”, Iranian intervention is the “next major problem the coalition must tackle”.

Bush noted that the number of attacks on US bases and troops by Iranian-supplied munitions had increased in recent months ? “despite pledges by Iran to help stabilise the security situation in Iraq”.

It explains, in part, his lack of faith in diplomacy with the Iranians. But Debat believes the Pentagon’s plans for military action involve the use of so much force that they are unlikely to be used and would seriously stretch resources in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Be fearful of a cornered Hitler Bush! He is too insane to think rationally.

Video shows Bush got explicit Katrina warning

President, Chertoff were clearly told of storm’s dangers numerous times

Updated: 9:01 a.m. MT March 2, 2006
WASHINGTON - In dramatic and sometimes agonizing terms, federal disaster officials warned President Bush and his homeland security chief before Hurricane Katrina struck that the storm could breach levees, put lives at risk in New Orleans’ Superdome and overwhelm rescuers, according to confidential video footage.

Bush didn’t ask a single question during the final briefing before Katrina struck on Aug. 29, but he assured soon-to-be-battered state officials: “We are fully prepared.”

The footage — along with seven days of transcripts of briefings obtained by The Associated Press — show in excruciating detail that while federal officials anticipated the tragedy that unfolded in New Orleans and elsewhere along the Gulf Coast, they were fatally slow to realize they had not mustered enough resources to deal with the unprecedented disaster.

'Clearest' images taken of space

A team of astronomers from the US and the UK has obtained some of the clearest pictures of space ever taken.

They were acquired using a new "adaptive optics" system which sharpens pictures taken from the Mount Palomar Observatory in California.

The images are twice as sharp as those from Hubble Space Telescope.

The new system, dubbed "Lucky", is the result of work by a team from Cambridge University and the California Institute of Technology (Caltech).

Volcanoes Key To Earth's Oxygen Atmosphere

A switch from predominantly undersea volcanoes to a mix of undersea and terrestrial ones shifted the Earth's atmosphere from devoid of oxygen to one with free oxygen, according to geologists.

"The rise of oxygen allowed for the evolution of complex oxygen-breathing life forms," says Lee R. Kump, professor of geoscience, Penn State.

Before 2.5 billion years ago, the Earth's atmosphere lacked oxygen. However, biomarkers in rocks 200 million years older than that period, show oxygen-producing cyanobacteria released oxygen at the same levels as today. The oxygen produced then, had to be going somewhere.

"The absence of oxidized soil profiles and red beds indicates that oxidative weathering rates were negligible during the Archaean," the researchers report in the Aug. 30 issue of Nature.

The ancient Earth should have had an oxygen atmosphere but something was converting, reducing, the oxygen and removing it from the atmosphere. The researchers suggest that submarine volcanoes, producing a reducing mixture of gases and lavas, effectively scrubbed oxygen from the atmosphere, binding it into oxygen containing minerals.

"The Archaean more than 2.5 billion years ago seemed to be dominated by submarine volcanoes," says Kump. "Subaerial andesite volcanoes on thickened continental crust seem to be almost absent in the Archaean."

About 2.5 billion years ago at the Archaean/Proterozoic boundary, when stabilized continental land masses arose and terrestrial volcanoes appeared, markers show that oxygen began appearing in the atmosphere.

Kump and Mark E. Barley, professor of geology, University of Western Australia, looked at the geologic record from the Archaean and the Palaeoproterozoic in search of the remains of volcanoes. They found that the Archaean was nearly devoid of terrestrial volcanoes, but heavily populated by submarine volcanoes. The Palaeoproterozoic, however, had ample terrestrial volcanic activity along with continuing submarine vulcanism. Subaerial volcanoes arose after 2.5 billion years ago and did not strip oxygen from the air. Having a mix of volcanoes dominated by terrestrial volcanoes allowed oxygen to exist in the atmosphere.

Terrestrial volcanoes could become much more common in the Palaeoproterozoic because land masses stabilized and the current tectonic regime came into play.

The researchers looked at the ratio of submarine to subaerial volcanoes through time. Because submarine volcanoes erupt at lower temperatures than terrestrial volcanoes, they are more reducing. As long as the reducing ability of the submarine volcanoes was larger than the amounts of oxygen created, the atmosphere had no oxygen. When terrestrial volcanoes began to dominate, oxygen levels increased.

The National Science Foundation, NASA Astrobiology Institute and the Australian Research Council supported this work.

Judge to hear 9/11 lawsuits

NEW YORK, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- Families of 42 U.S. victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, airline crashes may soon learn what their loved ones lives were worth, at least financially, it was reported.

The families are suing airlines, security companies and other parties in a trial to begin Sept. 24 in U.S. District Court in New York.

The families refused government compensation for their loved ones' deaths in the Sept. 11, 2001, hijacking of four planes that crashed into the World Trade Center Towers, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania, The New York Times reported Tuesday.

Lawyers for the defendants, United and American Airlines and other parties, call the lawsuits misguided and say they aren't to blame for the terrorist attacks.

Most of the families are represented by Motley Rice, a South Carolina law firm known for its tobacco, lead paint and asbestos litigation.

The families rejected settlements from the congressionally created Victim Compensation Fund, which paid $6 billion to survivors of 2,880 of those killed in the attacks, representing 97 percent of the families of the dead, the Times said.

Hillary

Dear Posters:

Here is my thought on Hillary. Before I share my thought, I want to say first of all there will be no 2008 presidential elections. It will take a miracle for the United States of Evil to have these elections. We know that only God can bestow upon us a miracle. I, personally, do not know if He will give us this miracle.

Let us say that by some miracle we do have the 2008 presidential elections. I do not know if Hillary Clinton will receive her party’s nomination. I do believe that she is the most qualified of the 2008 Democratic presidential candidates. As far as the Republican presidential candidates she is as qualified or better qualified than all the Republican candidates. She, as president, will not hurt the country. She is in fact more qualified than Hitler Bush and he has been president for almost seven years. Hitler Bush is a murderer and a war criminal. Murderers have to rationalize why they murder. They come to believe that they murder for the common good. Murdering God’s children for the common good is ridiculous.

Let us also say that if Hillary Clinton does receive her party’s presidential nomination, she will not win the election. The presidency is part of the good ole boy’s club. Women will not break into the good ole boy’s network whether women are qualified or not. This is my thought on Hillary.

What would happen if:

The Democrats win - everything - super-majorities in congress and the senate and the executive - maybe even a chance to appoint a few judges - we stay bogged down in Iraq, financial bubbles pop here and there and nothing of consequence changes. The fallout from the insane policies and failed leadership of the current maladministration will be making hay well into the next misadministrations first term.

I haven’t heard much from the candidates from either side about reversing the violations of the constitution that Busheney have signed, signed statement or just edict by decree (well, a little from Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich).

The first and foremost consideration is not the elect ability of any given candidate from any side it is the need for change, immediate and wide-reaching, to reverse these special powers that Bush has granted himself.

We could end up with any figurehead in any costume switching thespian masks to fit a given message while dancing to the tune of multi-national corporate masters.

The election can't matter much if one side can listen on everything from the other side. How could it? Bush has succeeded finishing the screwed up Nixon burglary - the RNC can eavesdrop on anybody anytime for any reason or no reason at all (and this time it is called legal).

I worry that we aren’t hearing more about what the next prez must undo. No politician wants to be looking back and revisiting unpopular themes and issues but the constitution is not just a GD piece of paper and it has suffered damage critical to repair.
