Telling the Truth--It's Hard Work
From The Washington Post:
Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales has retreated from public view this week in an intensive effort to save his job, spending hours practicing testimony and phoning lawmakers for support in preparation for pivotal appearances in the Senate this month, according to administration officials.
After struggling for weeks to explain the extent of his involvement in the firings of eight U.S. attorneys, Gonzales and his aides are viewing the Senate testimony on April 12 and April 17 as seriously as if it were a confirmation proceeding for a Supreme Court or a Cabinet appointment, officials said.
Ed Gillespie, a former Republican National Committee chairman, and Timothy E. Flanigan, who worked for Gonzales at the White House, have met with the attorney general to plot strategy. The department has scheduled three days of rigorous mock testimony sessions next week.
From Mark Twain:
If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.
And here's a question: why does Gonzales have to go through three days of play-acting--that's three days when he's not doing his job--in order to testify truthfully before Congress?

Mr. David Corn,
Great Post!
Thanks
Kirk
Alberto is a joke!!!
My wife has often said to me that if you are a liar, you must have a very good memory.
I hear lies from many politicians of both parties and Americans or the media do not challenge their lies. Why you ask? Well, here is my belief! Americans are living in a lie and by believing the illusion of being good, holy, and saintly persons. How can we be good, holy, and saintly persons when we live in an evil empire? Evil begets evil!!!
Alberto always leaves me with the impression of having a smirk on his face.

I believe that our politicians need to read Praying Each Day: April 5.
Susan E. Dudley receess appointment --- bad news for you and me...
Wars throughout history have been waged for conquest and plunder. In the Middle Ages when the feudal lords who inhabited the castles whose towers may still be seen along the Rhine concluded to enlarge their domains, to increase their power, their prestige and their wealth they declared war upon one another. But they themselves did not go to war any more than the modern feudal lords, the barons of Wall Street go to war.
The feudal barons of the Middle Ages, the economic predecessors of the capitalists of our day, declared all wars. And their miserable serfs fought all the battles. The poor, ignorant serfs had been taught to revere their masters; to believe that when their masters declared war upon one another, it was their patriotic duty to fall upon one another and to cut one another's throats for the profit and glory of the lords and barons who held them in contempt. And that is war in a nutshell.
The master class has always declared the wars; the subject class has always fought the battles. The master class has had all to gain and nothing to lose, while the subject class has had nothing to gain and all to lose-especially their lives.

Politically speaking, tribal nationalism always insists that its own people is surrounded by "a world of enemies", "one against all", that a fundmental difference exists between this people and all others. It claims its people to be unique, individual, incompatible with all others, and denies theoretically the very possibility of a common mankind long before it is used to destroy the humanity of man: Hannah Arendt, from her book The Origins Of Totalitarianism p.227

The recess appointments reflect how much Crusader Bunnypants cares about the process. Not anything with which he has to deal, just a minor inconvenience to wait until the house is out of town.
Perversion of process is the neochronic specialty.
Thank all that is good in the world that the government is not responsible for the sun coming up in the morning we would be out of batteries by now.

U.N. experts near agreement on bleak climate warning
BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Climate experts were trying to agree on Friday on the bleakest U.N. warning yet about the impacts of global warming, foreseeing hunger and water shortages in Africa and Asia, extinctions of species and rising oceans.
Delegates from more than 100 nations in the U.N. climate panel were locked in overnight talks in Brussels, seeking to overcome differences about a 21-page summary for policymakers to allow planned publication at 0800 GMT.
The talks, which began on Monday, are to review and approve a report warning that climate change could lead to lower crop yields in Africa, a thaw of Himalayan glaciers and a rise in ocean levels that could last for centuries.
It will say climate change, blamed mainly on human emissions of greenhouse gases from burning fossil fuels, is no longer a vague, distant threat for the planet.
"The whole of climate change is something actually here and now rather than something for the future," Neil Adger, a British lead author of the report, said in a break from the late-night talks.

Tell CNN to get the facts right on Pelosi trip
For much of the past week, CNN and its White House correspondent Suzanne Malveaux have offered a steady stream of inaccurate and incomplete coverage of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-CA) trip to the Middle East and her April 3 meeting with Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad.
Please join Media Matters for America in demanding that CNN and Malveaux stop misinforming viewers about Pelosi's trip and present all the facts. CNN's contact information can be found in our "Take Action!" sidebar on the right.
